The look of love

You have fallen in love. Remember when you first blushed, got butterflies, had a sparkle in your eye and glowed with happiness on those very first dates?

You probably smiled perpetually and looked radiant. Love fills us all with a sense of belonging and well-being and no amount of make-up or skin care can emulate the beauty of a woman in love.

It’s true to say that the stress of wedding planning can jade the happiest of brides, so in this issue I would like to try to resurrect those feelings of love so that you can get that girly glow back naturally. A lot of my brides, through no fault of their own, seem to lose the importance of how they look on their wedding day. Your husband-to-be will only have eyes for you, like on that very first date. It is important that you not only look groomed but radiant with love and happiness.

Wow Factor
A healthy skin will glow, a body that is rich in nutrients and a mind that is stress-free will reflect in the skin. The skin is the largest organ in the body, so it will mirror any imbalances within the body either physical or physiological. It is important that in order for you to have the ‘wow’ factor that you consider each of the following useful beauty hints for mind
and body:-

Take a break from the wedding planning occasionally, give your mind and body a day off. A walk in the park, a casual swim or a jog along the beach will get the blood flowing ‘naturally’ and add vitality to your skin and relax your mind.

Shed some skin, exfoliate! A fresh skin will glow, bounce light and absorb products more readily than a dry skin that has a build up of dead skin cells. Aim to exfoliate at least once a week with a good facial exfoliator and you will be surprised at how much fresher and younger your skin will appear. Make-up also adheres better to a ‘clean’ skin as products can be layered thinly for a longer-lasting finish.

Decléor Phytopeel Exfoliator

A glowing skin is a sun-kissed skin - always consider a tan for your wedding day. A gently tanned skin always looks radiant, but remember the word is glow not baked! Dry oils, balms and illuminators will add extra radiance especially along the breastbone, tops of shoulders and along the outline of arms.

Top Product Tip:
Have your tan applied 2 days before the wedding, not the day before!

Blushing Bride
Blusher is one of the key components for a beautiful make-up. It makes a woman appear pretty, young and overall, very beautiful. Without it, the complexion can look dull and lifeless. I believe that correctly applied blusher can add youthful vitality to a face and I always spend a lot of time building products and textures on the cheek area.

There are many blusher products on the market that the choice can be somewhat confusing. Tints, stains, creams and powders all deliver differences in finish and application methods. As a professional make-up artist, I feel that the most flattering blusher is the cream blush. This should be applied on the apples of the cheeks, the fleshy part that protrudes when you smile. It should be placed high on the cheek to accent and brighten the eyes and should always be in tones of rose or coral. The natural blush is in tones of rose so a cosmetic blush should copy this. Highlighter along the tops of the cheekbones will also lift the cheekbone area. I will always layer blusher products starting with the cream blusher (applied with my ring finger) then layer powder blusher (with a brush) to give density to the colour and longevity to the make-up.

Colour Correctors
Many women, especially the older bride or mother-of-the-bride, can suffer from broken veins or high colour in the centre of their face. This can be very distressing especially on such an important occasion. On discussing this problem with many clients and knowing the simple solution, I felt it necessary to share the secret to disguising it!

Redness in the skin, due to broken
capillaries, hormonal changes or rosacea can
all be neutralised with a green tinted product. The green will balance out any redness which will allow the foundation to go on evenly. This is a well used product within professional kits and can help alleviate embarrassing situations or ‘red-faces’ in photographs and video. Application is very easy; apply with a brush or ring finger sparingly onto affected area, and then apply foundation as normal.

Lip Perfect

A beautiful smile can disarm anyone, and as a make-up artist the lips are key to any make-up look - classic
or casual. Although some brides don’t want to wear a lot of lip colour, lips need to be polished in the same way the skin needs to be seamless. I always layer products onto the lips so that the look will stay in place; here are some lip perfect tips for longer lasting lip colour:

• Ensure the lips are free from lip balm, Vaseline or saliva as they all act as barriers to lipstick.

• Sparingly dust the lips with loose powder to make the outline slightly dry.

• Apply a neutral lipliner to the outline of the lips and blend onto the lip so that there is no harsh line.

• Use a sheer lipstick for a softer finish or a cream lipstick for denser colour. Apply lipstick with a lip brush for a clean line and to blend into the liner.

• Coat the lips with a coloured gloss – take care not to overdo the gloss as it may run into fine lines around the mouth. Gloss should only be used on the centre of the lips.

• A clear gloss that contains silver particles is a great way to finish the lips as it makes them look like glass. This finish always looks very romantic and polished.
